Pool of London - Is that, was that, a cinema? Yes, the New Palladium, says Mat Schofield, now swept away…But Mick Lemmerman says this and the above is the (New) Poplar Pavilion and not, as stated, the Palladium. More info: http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/26021

Pool of London - Not easy, is it?
Pool of London

pol005. Not easy, is it?

Pool of London - Well, a set of pics of streets probably torn down, or at least gentrified beyond recognition. Holmes and Watson aka Ray and Ron Glenister have, after all the years and involvement of many, finally resolved the location. It is The Vulcan public house on the corner of Galt Street (now no longer) and Parnham Street, Poplar, London E14. Here we are looking down Rhodeswell Road. The Vulcan was on a corner with that road as well! (RL)

Pool of London - Still, maybe, with the clues, one of you sleuths will come up with the goods. See pol006a. Our sleuths Holmes and Watson say that this is looking down the left bend in Rhodeswell Road, Poplar, London E14 (RL)

Pool of London - With a No. 15 bus going to East Ham. See 006a, we now know, courtesy of Ray and Ron that the No. 15 was on the payroll, off route, and here turning out of Galt Street into Parnham Street, London E14. (RL)

Pool of London - And the other direction… all pol006s with the pub are either The White Hart on Poplar High Street or, more probably, The Volunteer, a Charrington pub that was on the corner of East India Dock Rd and Robin Hood Lane. This area was a turning/resting place for buses (and still is), hence the 15 bus. The pub was demolished c1992 due to road-widening at the Blackwall Tunnel Approach Road. Many internal pub scenes were almost certainly made in this pub (e.g. the scene where the police turn up looking for him). The inside of windows are clearly the same as external views. Super info from Mick Lemmerman but subsequent photos, one supplied by him, of the two pubs brings it all into question for us all! Back to the drawing board. To finally resolve the location, The Vulcan pub to the right looking down Rhodeswell Road, London E14 with thanks to Ray and Ron Glenister, see006a. (RL)
