Colin Smith gets caught robbing a bakery. Sent to borstal, the governor decides to make him a long distance runner to give him a purpose in life, and win a race to cast glory on the governor himself.

Paul Canty says Camber Sands were used for the seaside shots, which we haven't included because we didn't discover any architectural details.

Kieran Wilkinson tells us; a lot of info as to the locations can be found at http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/film-locations/98484-loneliness-long-distance-runner-2.html

lr009n. This view is at the western edge of the large Whyteleafe recreation Ground about 5 minutes walk south from the location of the next image (lr010) along the same railway line. The railway arch leads onto Maple Road just off the A22. There is some sort of bunker structure in the photo (middle-left) with two squared off concrete corners that is still there today. Picture sent in by Mark Peters, our thanks to him.

lr010n. This is probably one of the less picturesque views in the whole of Surrey! As the 4 characters wander up near the steep northern edge of Riddlesdown Quarry, the gasometer and cement works (still both in operation) are clearly seen in the background as well as the main centre of Whyteleafe. The BR mainline south to East Grinstead runs over the quarry's viaduct in the background too - (next stop Upper Warlingham). Mark Peters sent the photo and the information.
