The 18th Century adventures of an Irish farm boy who joins both the British and the Prussian Army, becomes a spy and finally gains his longed-for aspiration as a gentleman. SJ
Not many reel streets here but a generous array of stately shots of impressive abodes in a two year shoot, beset by Kubrick-esque challenges such as having to leave Ireland under IRA threats and being forced by Warner Bros to use a box office star as his lead.
Steve Widdicome points out that George's recruiting officer dressed in red in barlyn006 was John Bindon (credited) who had an "interesting" life that is well documented in "imdb". Steve's father was born and grew up in Hackney and said that Bindon was not always popular and often evoked alternative routes and broad swerves!
