Screen captures by Ray Edwards and published by Richard Lovejoy

Ron Johnson had just finished reading “Voices From the Railways” that included a piece by a Charles Cook, dated 1962 (Charles was Public Affairs Manager for the Eastern Region of British Rail) as we were publishing this film on Site. Ron advises us that Charles described how and where the train derailment scene from “The Password is Courage” was filmed:

The action takes places at Scratchwood Sidings, which is now London Gateway Services on the M1, and adds that an ancient 0-6-0 locomotive was ‘sold’ to MGM for £3,500 and then after the smash it was sold for scrap at £5,000

In addition, Dirk Bogarde celebrated his 40th birthday during the filming and stood the staff a champagne meal.

Could this be The Lake, Moat Mount which is very near to Scratchwood where other filming was done, it certainly has similar characteristics. However, Britmovie Forum (Kevin Daley) says that the early filming was was done in Hadley Wood, Barnet. Monken Hadley Common Website talks about Folly Bridge with masonry parapets. Does that in tpic003 help? Mark Littlefield recognises the scenes and confirms the location as Jack's Lake in Hadley Woods, Barnet. (RL)
