Nasty "graboids" (large sand worms) live under the desert and threaten to destroy the tiny town of Perfection, Nevada. A slow burner which took off in the video shops, spawned three sequels and created a few internet sites specifically to adore Tremors.
My enormous gratitude goes to Lone Pine resident Dave Holland, who wrote On Location in Lone Pine, and was kind enough to give a wonderful tour in his 4x4 around the Alabama Hills, with stills, hot coffee and much experience. SJ

trem001. Bacon "takes a leak." Not sure those are real cliffs.
trem002. Bacon wakes up Ward sleeping in the pickup. That may be Owen's Lake in the background, putting this south of Lone Pine, California.
trem003. Bacon and Ward drive into "Perfection."
trem004. Where the raod workmen are attacked by a graboid. Lots of lovely rocks to identify. The Alabama Hills (rock heaven).
trem005. Ward and Bacon drive around a bit: the view from "Perfection."
trem006. Ward and Bacon encounter their first worm.
trem007. Seismologist Finn Carter joins the boys.
trem007n. Not quite the right angle, but the same load of rocks in the
background. SJ (Modern Photo Added: 04-01-2012)
trem008. Refuge on some rocks, safe from the worms.
trem008n. Hooray, same rock, like finding a needle in a haystack. SJ (Modern Photo Added: 04-01-2012)
trem009. Stuck on a rock above Lone Pine close to Mount Whitney.
trem010. Vaulting to safety.
trem010n. I should have crouched down lower to match this shot, and waited a few hours for the sun to come round but there's the row of rocks to vault. On right of now. SJ (Modern Photo Added: 04-01-2012)
